Local Attractions

If you have an hour or two in downtown Salt Lake City, the main things to do there are visit the historic churches and buildings near Temple Square. It's easy to find and parking is much better than most big cities. There's plenty of good food in the downtown area. Red Iguana for Mexican is a local favorite.

If you have 3-4 hours in the Provo area, you can return to the SLC airport by the scenic route. Drive up Provo Canyon and stop at Bridal Veil Falls for a nice walk and great views. Farther up the canyon is Robert Redford's Sundance ski area for rustic ambience and good food. Continue on to Park City for more mountain scenery and a walking area in the old downtown. Park City is a half hour or so from the airport.

If you have a full day or more, the main reasons people come to Utah are for skiing and the red rock canyons of southern Utah. The ski areas are a half hour or so from either Provo (Sundance) or Salt Lake City (Alta, Snowbird, Solitude, Brighton). It's interesting to visit the ski areas even if you are just looking around.

The red rock canyons are the real gem of Utah. These are 2-4 hours away and are either a long day trip or a multi-day trip. The Moab area is a common destination, as are Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park. The list of amazing sights is endless, including Dead Horse Point, Arches National Park, and many others.
